Frequently asked questions

The Cradle Collective is dedicated to providing warm, compassionate, and professional support throughout your journey into parenthood. Our mission is to help families build sustainable support systems and community, ensuring you feel confident, informed, and cared for. Here are some answers to commonly asked questions.

What does a doula do?

A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We help you feel informed, supported, and empowered in your choices, and we stay by your side through labor and the early transition into parenthood.

When should I hire a doula?

You can hire a doula at any point in pregnancy, but many families find it helpful to connect early so there is time to build trust, prepare for birth, and create a support plan that fits your needs.

Do you replace my doctor or midwife?

No. A doula does not provide medical care. We work alongside your medical team to offer continuous emotional support, advocacy, comfort measures, and education throughout your experience.

Do you support hospital births, home births, or birth centers?

Yes. We support families in all birth settings. Our role is to support you wherever you choose to give birth.

What unique benefits does The Cradle Collective offer?

Families often appreciate that our support is continuous, personalized, and focused on building real emotional security throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We provide non-judgmental emotional support, education, and advocacy so families feel informed and confident in their decisions. Partners also appreciate guidance that helps them feel included and prepared during labor and the transition into parenthood. We offer ongoing support through postpartum recovery, adjustment, and newborn care transition, as well as compassionate care for miscarriage, stillbirth, and pregnancy after loss. Many families value that we stay connected beyond birth instead of stepping away once labor is over. We believe doula care should be accessible, and we accept Medicaid. We can also help families navigate their benefits when possible. Our goal is to reduce barriers so every family can feel supported, informed, and cared for.

What common misunderstandings about doula support do you clarify?

One common misunderstanding is that doulas replace medical providers, when in reality we do not provide medical care—we work alongside your doctor or midwife to offer emotional support, education, and advocacy. Another concern is that doulas might take over or replace a partner’s role. In truth, we support partners too, helping them feel more confident, involved, and supported. Some families also worry they need a “perfect birth plan” or that hiring a doula is only for certain types of births. Doulas support all birth experiences, and we are here to help you navigate changes with flexibility and reassurance. We also remind families that support doesn’t end at birth—we continue into postpartum and, when needed, through grief and pregnancy after loss.
